SOUTH MILLS — A motorcyclist was seriously injured after nearly colliding with a sport utility vehicle in Camden County Saturday afternoon, officials said.

Major Jon Worthington of the Camden County Sheriff's Office said the injured motorcyclist was transported by Nightingale helicopter to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. His name and condition were not available late Saturday.

According to Worthington, the unidentified motorcyclist was traveling west on Main Street in South Mills about 3 p.m. when he swerved to avoid a Hummer entering the road from Joys Creek Road.

The motorcyclist was thrown from his bike and suffered unknown injuries, Worthington said.

The N.C. Highway Patrol responded to the accident, Worthington said.

Further details were not available late Saturday afternoon.
