The Currituck County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help in locating the suspected ringleader in a string of burglaries in the Corolla area last year.
Two men have already been arrested and are awaiting trial in the case. But sheriff's officials say they have yet to locate Nicholas Vincent Sarandos, 22, the alleged mastermind behind more than 30 break-ins in the Corolla area between March and May of last year.
Sheriff's officials say Sarandos and two other men — Michael Thomas Gray and Curtis Conant — broke into homes in Corolla, stole high-end television sets and audio equipment, and then resold them. The suspects are also believed to be responsible for a series of burglaries in Duck during May 2007, where TVs were again the most common item taken.
Investigators have determined that more than 45 flat-screen and plasma TVs were stolen during the crime spree. The televisions were valued at $250,000, while damage to homes totaled $3,000.
On June 1, 2007, the sheriff's office recovered several items stolen during the break-ins from a Currituck County residence. They also recovered one of the stolen TVs at a location in Elizabeth City.
Gray, 23, of 4533 Caratoke Highway, Barco, was arrested last year and charged with burglary, larceny and possession of stolen goods.
Conant, 24, of Shiloh, was also arrested last year and charged with felony conspiracy, second-degree burglary and felony larceny charges.
Both Gray and Conant are currently free on bond as they await trial.
Sarandos has been indicted on two counts of larceny and two counts of second-degree forcible burglary.
Sheriff's investigators say Sarandos last known address is Coinjock, but they suspect he may be living in the Edenton area.
