A Currituck woman was arrested Tuesday in connection with two recent bomb threats that sheriff's officials say she made to cover up financial card theft.

Crystal Gayle Cooper Ingram, 30, of the 100 block of North Mallard Court, Currituck, was charged with two counts of making a false report concerning a destructive device and one count of financial transaction card theft, according to the Currituck County Sheriff's Office.

Lt. Matthew Beickert said Ingram made the bomb threats to the Bank of Currituck on Friday and

Monday to prevent the victim of credit card theft from

discovering the crime.

Beickert said Ingram had used a financial card that did not belong to her to steal $300 from the victim's account. Ingram's plan was to deposit $300 back into the account before the theft was discovered, he said.

"She was calling these bomb threats to conceal a theft that she had made against someone she knew," Beickert said.

On Friday afternoon, a threat was called into the Grandy office of the Bank of Currituck, prompting bank officials to close the branch for the remainder of the day.

On Monday morning, all six Bank of Currituck locations were closed after the Moyock office was informed of a threat against one of the branches. The branches were reopened after searches were conducted and no explosive devices were found.

Detective Victor Lasher said investigators were able to trace the bomb threats back to Ingram's telephone.

Using that information and other details from interviews conducted by investigators, deputies were able to charge Ingram, he said. She was arrested at a residence on Garrenton Road in Jarvisburg on Tuesday morning.

Ingram is currently being held at the Currituck County Detention Center in lieu of a $50,000 secured bond. She has a first appearance scheduled in Currituck District Court on July 9.

Lasher said he couldn't remember a bomb threat against a bank in Currituck in recent years.

The most recent bomb threat in the county was made earlier this year against the ferry system between Knotts Island and the Currituck mainland. In that case, a note was left on one of the ferries. No arrests have been made

in that case.
