Free prescription cards available Tuesday

Monday, June 30, 2008

Starting Tuesday, free 20-percent prescription drug discount cards will be available at several locations throughout Pasquotank County.

The cards, which can be used by all Pasquotank County residents regardless of age, income or health coverage, will be available at the city's customer service department at City Hall, City Manager Rich Olson said.

Pasquotank County Manager Randy Keaton said they have also been distributed to all area pharmacists, the senior center, social service, health department, cooperative extension, and are also available at the county manager, tax and register of deeds offices.

The cards enable residents to receive a 20 percent discount off the cost of prescription drugs.

Called the NACo card, it's being made available thanks to a contract between Pasquotank County and the National Association of Counties.

Keaton said all local pharmacies will accept the NACo card, as will all 57,000 members of a national network of participating pharmacies.

Keaton said the program will particularly benefit those who are uninsured or under insured.

"Even those fortunate to have prescription coverage may use the card to save money on drugs not covered by their health plan," Keaton said.
