A man convicted of sexual exploitation of a minor in Utah has been charged with 11 child sex offenses in Pasquotank County.
Daniel Carl Sherwin, 29, of the 1000 block of Four Forks Road, Elizabeth City, was charged last month by the State Bureau of Investigation with two counts of first-degree child rape, three counts of first degree sex offense on a child and six counts of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
Sherwin is being held at Albemarle District Jail in lieu of a $5.5 million bond.
According to arrest warrants, Sherwin is charged with taking photos of two young children engaged in sexual acts, raping one of them and committing sexual offenses with both of them.
According to the arrest warrant on the sexual exploitation charges, Sherwin is charged with using the children "to engage in sexual activity by manufacturing a digital still image for the purpose of producing material containing a visual representation depicting this activity."
The charges aren't the first against Sherwin for child sex offenses. In 2003, he was convicted in Tooele County, Utah, of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, according to the North Carolina sex offender registry.
