Organizers of this year's Elizabeth City Area Chamber of Commerce Auction are urging ticket holders to come with their samba shoes on.
The theme for this year's auction, "Carnival in Rio," promises a night of fun and foolery for a good cause, they say.
The Pines at Elizabeth City country club will host the 10th annual event, which starts at 7 p.m.
Elizabeth City Brick Co. is sponsoring the event, which will include both silent and live auctions. Proceeds will help support the Chamber's annual operations.
The silent auction begins at 7 p.m., followed by a live auction at 9 p.m. Attendees may bid on everything from jewelry, spa packages and home improvement packages to NASCAR and Washington Nationals tickets.
Attendees are encouraged to dress casually, or in their best tropical finery.
The indoor and outdoor event will feature an open beer and wine bar, and complimentary signature "Rio cocktails." A cash bar will be available as well.
The Pines will provide an elaborate spread of hors d'oeuvres, including mini crab cakes, chicken, fruit and vegetables.
Live samba performances, and dancing will be on tap throughout the evening. Featured DJ Greg Sampson will also provide musical entertainment.
This year's event will also feature a caricaturist.
"Everyone always enjoys this event," Chamber President Jennifer Palestrant said.
Tickets are $35 and must be purchased in advance on the Chamber of Commerce Web site. Purchasing tickets at the door will not be permitted.
