For the second time in just over a week, a motocross rider was injured Sunday at the Dixieland Speedway track north of Elizabeth City.
Jerry Newell, director of Pasquotank-Camden Emergency Medical Services, said the rider was thrown from a "motocross vehicle" about 10 a.m. Sunday. The rider was "conscious and breathing" and appeared to have suffered a leg injury, Newell said.
Newell did not immediately have any information about the rider. He also didn't know what type of vehicle was involved in the incident.
A Nightingale helicopter transported the rider to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Newell said.
Dixieland officials did not return a phone call Sunday.
A 16-year-old Granville County motocross rider was fatally injured at Dixieland Saturday, July 12, when his all-terrain vehicle struck a wall at the racetrack.
Tracy Guess said his son, Trevor, hit the wall while practicing for a motocross race at the track. Trevor Guess died en route to the hospital, his father said.
