Al Davis's famous quote is, "Just win baby." He never said anything about being pretty.
Edenton Post 40 was pretty enough to hold on for a 10-9 win over New Bern Post 24 in game 1 of their best-of-5 second-round Legion playoff series at Northeastern High School, Tuesday.

"We made it exciting, didn't we?" Edenton coach Bob Jordan said. "I don't think either team played real well. A lot of mistakes, but we'll take the win any way we can get it."
Jordan was right, neither played well, combining for just 14 hits, 14 walks and 11 errors.
Two New Bern pitchers combined to allow just four hits, but they hit four batters and the defense committed six errors behind them, leading to five unearned runs.
Post 40 was not much better, booting five balls.
"We have some young guys that haven't been in this situation before," Jordan said. "Legion playoffs, the farther it goes, the more the pressure builds and I think we're feeling a bit of it, but in the ninth inning we came back and made some plays."
New Bern was in control for most of the game, leading 2-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Starter Grey Davis carried a no-hitter through five innings. But the sixth proved disasterous.
Edenton sent 11 batters to the plate, collecting all four of its hits in the inning, and scored nine runs. Post 40 made the most of its opportunities, drawing four walks and getting a hit batter, and Post 24 made two errors. Two of the walks and the hit batter came with the bases loaded. Austin Beasley, who got Edenton's first hit of the game earlier in the inning, capped off the sixth with a two-run home run.
But New Bern did not go quietly. The teams matched runs in the seventh, then Edenton gave back two of the errors and Post 24 got a three-run homer from Brett Williams in a six-run seventh inning to get to within one run, 10-9.
Clinging to the lead in the ninth inning, Post 40 turned to Zack Beasley to shut the door. He responded by getting Post 24 in order to earn the save.
Austin Beasley had two of Edenton's four hits, both coming in the sixth inning. Williams was 3-for-5 with four RBIs and Matt Hardeman was 2-for-4.
Campbell Brown went six strong innings, allowing just one earned run to get the win. Jim Robinson worked three innings of two-hit relief, but five unearned runs left him with the loss.
