CHARLOTTE — Winter is forecast to make one last mark on North Carolina.
The storm system that brought snow, sleet and freezing rain to the state is heading into Virginia on Thursday, but also is expected to dump more snow on North Carolina.
A winter storm warning was in effect in the mountains and central North Carolina on Thursday. Up to 3 inches of additional snow was possible in the southern mountains. The Boone area could get another 10 inches of snow.
Up to 5 inches of additional snow was possible from Winston-Salem to Raleigh.
More freezing rain was possible in the southeastern part of the state.
The storm jammed traffic in the Research Triangle area Wednesday as the snow began to fall.
