CHARLOTTE — More than 20 dogs and one parrot have been rescued from a puppy mill in Alexander County.
The Humane Society of the United States says the animals were removed on Friday afternoon after deputies served a search warrant.
Authorities say said the 23 dogs did not have access to clean water or food and were lacking veterinary care. The sheriff’s office said the animals were in filthy conditions and were suffering from skin and eye problems, parasites and tumors.
The dogs were brought to the Humane Society of Charlotte and will be listed online once they’re available for adoption.
