The state president of the NAACP told an audience at Elizabeth City State University Thursday that this is no time for the civil rights community to disengage from the issues of the day.

The NAACP is self perpetuating.
If there were no racial divisiveness, the NAACP would be out of a job.
The NAACP needs a white state president
I think the NAACP needs some white representation on its board or even as NC State President of the NAACP.
What an unfair world we live
What an unfair world we live in. The poor are poor because the taxpayers aren't giving them enough money and other benefits.
Criminals are jailed because they commit crimes. Why does the NAACP not try to address the reasons blacks commit crimes in disproportionate numbers? I'm sure they're not suggesting that crimes be overlooked so that high numbers of minorities aren't locked up, are they?
No need to waste a comment or time with this one!
No need to waste a comment with this one. I hope the NAACP doesn't get upset with my comment............
*sigh*
You'd think the D/A would practice better journalism practices. Seriously... everytime there is one of these articles, Reggies name is attached. Is he hand picking these stories or getting stuck with them? Either way, covering stories like this is just wrong all around.
What is wrong with this local
What is wrong with this local news story; except for the fact that you don't like it?
Gangs, the NAACP and "advancement"
After watching WTKR's story on gangs in the Hampton Roads area and police comments that gang members in their early teens would as soon kill as not, I have to ask again, "NAACP? Where is your plan for dealing with gangs?" Surely the NAACP is aware there is a gang problem and that locally gangs are mostly (all?) black. Come on folks! If your goal is the "advancement of colored people" you cannot ignore the gang problem! What purpose do you serve when you are in the forefront of civil rights, yet drag your butts on issues current among your own people that hold back any real advancement. Man up! Do the right thing! Tackle the "Big Problem."
Will never happen...
Much like some kids that I went to high school with, it's easier to focus on why your upbringing was so lacking and then allow that to hold you back. If it's someone elses fault then no one has to take personal accountability and focus on the real issues that prevent real advancement.
Rev. Barber needs a "devil"
Rev. Barber's ongoing drumbeat "Them against Us" keeps the pot boiling long after the oppositional fires have gone out. He recognizes the positive role of a "devil." ;)
