An Elizabeth City company is organizing a clothing giveaway for victims of last month’s tornadoes on May 24.

Gabriel Adkins, owner of A&W Financial Services, said he’s gathering clothes and other goods to help people who lost their homes or other property in last month’s storms. The storms inflicted widespread damage but it appears victims will receive little to no federal assistance, Adkins said.

There’s a big need for summer clothes — lots of winter clothes have been collected already, he said.

Adkins said the victim benefit will begin at 8 a.m. at 111 N. McMorrine St., Elizabeth City, and “we don’t plan to leave until everything is gone.”

Virginia Beach’s New Oak Grove Church is helping host the benefit, Adkins said.
