Bill eyes making US 64, 17 interstate

Hoping to speed up business traffic between Raleigh and Norfolk — and create jobs along the way — North Carolina’s congressional delegation has introduced legislation to turn U.S. Highway 17 and U.S. Highway 64 into a future interstate highway.

There is a I-17 (Interstate 17) in Arizona, from Flagstaff to Phoenix,AZ and a I-64 (Interstate 64) in Virginia, from the Hampton Roads area,VA to St. Louis, MO.


The red-headed stepchild (Northeastern North Carolina) is finally getting a piece of the action. Raleigh has long ignored funding for any sort of substantial roads to benefit growth and trade here.
