City Manager Rich Olson said this evening that there will be a partial activation of the Emergency Operations Center, effective at 11 p.m., as a precaution.

Olson cited the latest weather reports at 5 p.m., which he said indicate Arthur is still going directly north, which puts the area more in the hurricane’s bull’s eye. “We’re still believing that it’s going to shift back to the east,” he said.

Still, Olson cited the necessity to activate the center, with plans calling for further decisions once there is an update at 11 p.m.

Olson said the question of how long the center will be operational will depend on the nature of Arthur. He said the brunt of Arthur should be coming at 2 a.m. Friday, which he noted is a bad time because residents will be asleep.

The Operations Center will include Olson, along with representatives of the Fire Department, Police Department, Sheriff’s Office and Pasquotank-Camden Emergency Management.
