Coast Guard medevacs man near Oregon Inlet

A crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City on Saturday medevaced a recreational boater who suffered from a cut near Oregon Inlet.

Dare County Emergency Services contacted Coast Guard Sector North Carolina at 3:08 p.m. to report the owner of a 22-foot power boat suffered a cut on his leg near the Bonner Bridge and in need of medical assistance, according to a Coast Guard press release.

A 24-foot water crew from Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet was launched and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City assisted.

The small boat crew and a good Samaritan arrived on scene at about 4 p.m. and attempted to tow the vessel into deeper water in order to transfer the injured man.

However, the helicopter crew arrived at about 4:05 p.m. and hoisted him aboard.

The injured man was flown to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City at about 5 p.m.
