How would you describe your job? I diagnose customer complaints with their automobiles, determine what is needed to repair the complaint and perform the needed repairs.
Ken Beale, age 46 Weeksville Service Technician Carolina Chrysler, 20 years |
Has your job been affected by changes in technology or other changes? My job has been affected by technology because as automobiles become more complex, computer systems are used to communicate with each other as far as the operating parameters of the vehicle. The engine control module communicates with the transmission control, the transmission control module will sometimes communicate with the anti-lock brake module. It can get very complex.
Besides salary, what benefits do you derive from your work? We have health insurance, paid vacation, uniforms are partially paid and you have the ability to invest in a 401(k). We have five paid personal days a year.
What are the long-term or indirect benefits of your job? I get training on new technology all the time. Even though they're constantly changing technology, old technology is still there. If you choose to stay with the company until you retire, the 401(k) is a great long-term benefit.
How do you see your job benefiting the larger community? My job benefits the community because it provides a useful and necessary service so that the citizens of the community can get their automobiles fixed.
