Wesley Moore: Farmer

Sunday, March 30, 2008

How would you describe your job? We raise corn, wheat and soybeans.

Wesley Moore, age 50

Weeksville

Farmer

self-employed, 30 years

Has your job been affected by changes in technology or other changes? We've got a GPS receiver on the combine to check for yields, so you know where the good and bad places are in the field. We use the laser leveling to try and eliminate the wet spots where too much water can hurt the crop.

Besides salary, what benefits do you derive from your work? You get to stay outside and not be stuck in an office.

What are the long-term or indirect benefits of your job? Health benefits, for one. I get a fair amount of exercise working outside. Plus, I'll have a bunch

of farm equipment to sell when I decide to quit.

How do you see your job benefiting the larger community? Well, it brings money into the community that will be spent in the community. It gives people some open land to look at, which a lot of people like.
