How would you describe your job? It sounds more complicated than it is. I kind of oversee the window clerks, five regular window clerks. I'm also the bulk mail clerk, which I handle all the business customers, all the bulk mailings, the business reply mailers. That's really my favorite part of my job — doing the business customers and trying to help them as we move forward into the future as well because it's changing constantly.

Has your job been affected by changes in technology or other changes? Since I've been here we've gotten four of what we call CSBCS (carrier sequence bar code sorter) machines. We used to get our mail from Rocky Mount. They would run it, but now we run it here ourselves.
Besides salary, what benefits do you derive from your work? Well, we have a great retirement program. Our health benefits are great, especially for Elizabeth City. It's just a great job as far as health insurance, retirement, life insurance, your salary.
What are the long-term or indirect benefits of your job? The customers that I deal with and the relationships I've built with them. When you start off with a new mailer, a new business, and you're able to see that business grow, you feel like you may have had a hand in it.
How do you see your job benefiting the larger community? Again, that's got to be helping our customers reach out to their customers, and by helping to grow their business.
