When you walk into Chauncey's, you can immediately see that this is no simple pawn shop. New and used car stereos, TVs, movies, guns and much more line the walls of the bottom floor of the 5,000 sq. ft. store. After 15 years in business, the pawn and retail store has grown considerably by offering great prices on new and used items, repair and installation services, and outstanding customer service.

"We serve our customers with the best service, products and knowledge with a level of care that you and I would want," owner Robert Chauncey says. But if you only browse the ground level, you may be missing one of the "best kept secrets" of Elizabeth City.

The upstairs houses Chauncey's Music, filled with guitars, basses, drums and accessories. Even if you are a casual musician, or haven't played in while, seeing the inventory at Chauncey's just may inspire you to pick up a new acoustic and start playing again.

According to Morgan Hague, manager of Chauncey's, the store is expanding its inventory in 2008 with even more quality name brand instruments. "In the music store we have the new lines of Roland Keyboards and Amps, Peavey Guitars and Amps Pro Audio, and Guild Acoustics. Those are our major additions. This is in addition to the already massive selection of guitars by Gibson, Odessa, Ibanez and Fender, and basses by Washburn and Peavey. Drums available are by Tama, Percussion Plus and Roland Electric," Hague says.

Chauncey's also offers instrument repairs, re-string services, and required school instructional music books. For the aspiring musician who wants to learn to play, or if you've got the guitar mastered and want to try something different, Chauncey's has you covered. In addition to guitar, last year they added piano and drum lessons.

After you check out the music store, make sure to browse the ground floor. In the Gun Shop Department, they have the largest selection of firearms and accessories in Elizabeth City, along with a very knowledgeable staff. Handgun safety from an NRA certified instructor and concealed handgun training is also available.

Chauncey's car stereo installation department installs new sound systems along with keyless entry, alarm and remote-start systems and satellite radios. All vehicle installations are backed by a lifetime warranty for as long as the owner owns the vehicle.

"Never pay retail" is the slogan at Chauncey's. From retail items to pawn, they are constantly striving to meet customers needs, and to providing an outstanding and unique shopping experience to Elizabeth City.
