CANTON, N.C. — Firefighters are concerned high winds could revive a western North Carolina wildfire that burned close to homes before being corralled.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reported Wednesday the fire near Canton came within 10 feet of homes before it stopped Tuesday night.
Haywood County emergency official Bill Miller said about 85 firefighters worked during the night and as many as 30 would be on duty during the morning to watch hot spots.
The fire started about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Officials could not pinpoint the cause.
