TODAY

Head Start. Head Start is currently accepting applications for the 2007-008 school year. The program is for youngsters ages 3-5. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. For more information, call 331-1980.

Perquimans school board to meet. The Perquimans County Board of Education will tour Perquimans Central School and Hertford Grammar School today, beginning at 7:30 a.m. Following the tour, the board will hold a work session in the administrative offices at 1 p.m.

Neighborhood watch group to meet. The Historic District Neighborhood Watch group will meet today at 7 p.m., at the Elizabeth City Bed & Breakfast. For info, e-mail uccw4u2@hotmail.com.

Al-Pam Club to meet. The Al-Pam Republican Club will meet at BJ's Barbecue & Family Restaurant in Jarvisburg today at 6:30 p.m. Becki Gray, chief policy analyst for the John William Pope Civitas Institute, will be the speaker. For information, call 793-9547 or 491-3398.

COMING UP

ECSU spring registration. Elizabeth City State University will hold registration for the spring semester at the K.E. White Center, Friday through Monday. Freshmen and transfer students will register Friday from 9:30 a.m. to noon; weekend/evening program and graduate students will register Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon; and upperclassmen will register Jan. 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Classes begin Tuesday. Guild of Museum Friends to meet. Local historian Alex Leary will talk about the restoration of the Camden Courthouse and jail at the Guild of Museum Friends meeting Friday at 10:30 a.m.

NAACP Jubilee Day breakfast. The Pasquotank County branch of the NAACP will hold a Jubilee Day breakfast in the fellowship hall at Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church Saturday at 9 a.m. Elizabeth City State University Interim Chancellor Willie Gilchrist will be the guest speaker, and newly elected branch officers will be installed. Tickets can be purchased from branch members by calling 338-2243. Donations are $5.

NHS Saturday School. Northeastern High School will hold Saturday School for students needing tutoring in end-of-course subjects, Saturday and Saturday, Jan. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon. Students should see their teachers for more information.

Quilt Lovers Guild to meet. The Colonial Quilt Lovers Guild will meet at the Camden Senior Center Saturday at 10 a.m.

Sugar Babies to meet. Sugar Babies, the support group for children and adolescents with diabetes and their families, will meet in Albemarle Hospital's Education Room 2 Monday at 6 p.m. Marie Ward will give a program on counting carbohydrates and measuring portion sizes. To register, call 338-4370 by Thursday.
