Red Cross blood drives. The Greater Albemarle Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold blood drives at Albemarle Plantation in Hertford today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m; at Roanoke Bible College, Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and in the education room at Albemarle Hospital Friday, Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For info, call 1-800-GIVELIFE.

Harvest Moon Farm/Carolina Carriages open house. Harvest Moon Farm and Carolina Carriages will hold an open house at 286 N.C. Highway 343, Camden, today at 5 p.m. The event will include free horse-drawn hay rides, a pumpkin patch and games.

Tomorrow Commission to meet at ECSU. The University of North Carolina Tomorrow Commission will hold one its "Listening Forums" at the K.E. White Center today at 4 p.m. UNC President Erskine Bowles will be among the speakers. The forums are designed to explore how the UNC's multi-campus system can best meet the changing needs of the state over the next 20 years.

LifeSpan Women's Health Fair. Chowan Hospital will host a women's health fair on the hospital front lawn today from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Albemarle Commission to meet. The Albemarle Commission will meet in Hertford today at 7:30 p.m.

Perquimans AARP to meet. The Perquimans Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons will meet at the Perquimans County Senior Center in Hertford Monday at 2 p.m.

Dole aide to visit Currituck. A staff representative in the eastern office of U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole, R-N.C., will hold office hours for Currituck County residents Monday from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. County residents can meet with the representative in the upstairs conference room at the courthouse. Cooking classes for diabetics. Albemarle Hospital and the Pasquotank Center of the N.C. Kaplan to offer free grad school tests. Kaplan and Elizabeth City State University are offering a free testing event Saturday, Oct. 6, for students interested in testing for graduate schools. Reduced cat/kitten adoption fees. The SPCA of Northeastern North Carolina has reduced adoption fees for cats and kittens. Fees are $30 for a spayed or neutered animal, $15 if the animal hasn't been spayed or neutered. For more info, call 338-5222.

Treasure Point 4-H Camp fund. The Camden County 4-H Foundation has established a "Treasure Point 4-H Camp Re-building fund" to raise money to replace the log cabin destroyed by arsonists in early November. Make checks payable to the Camden County 4-H Foundation and send to either the Camden Center of the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service or the Bank of Currituck in Camden.
