Tourism panel meetings. The Finance Committee of the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Tourism Development Authority will meet at the Visitor's Center today at 9 a.m. The Personnel Committee will meet at 10 a.m.

Fitness and Nutrition Council to meet. The Albemarle Fitness and Nutrition Council, a subcommittee of Health Carolinians of the Albemarle, will meet in the annex of Albemarle Hospital today, at 8:15 a.m. For more information, call 384-4633.

Pesticide applicator recertification. Recertification for private pesticide applicators will be the subject of the Pasquotank Producers' winter meeting at the Pasquotank Center of the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service building today from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Al Wood will be the speaker.

Federal employees group to meet. Robert Williamson will be the speaker for the meeting of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association in the Community Room at the W.C. Witherspoon Memorial Library today at 1 p.m. For info, call 330-2119.

Relay for Life kickoff meeting. The Pasquotank/Camden American Cancer Society Relay for Life will hold its kickoff meeting at the Pasquotank Center of the N.C. Filing period for election continues. The filing period for the 3rd Ward city election to fill the seat formerly held by Councilman Darryl Stallings Sr. continues through Tuesday. Third Ward residents can file for the Feb. 19 election at the Pasquotank County Board of Elections Office at 426 McArthur Drive between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Perquimans school board retreat continues. The Perquimans County Board of Education will continue its annual retreat today at 8 a.m. at Albemarle Plantation.

Bicycle Ministry seeks tricycles. The Bicycle Ministry is seeking used tricycles for child patients at St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Tricycles may be dropped off at Cycle Gallery at 1008 Halstead Blvd., Elizabeth City. For more info, call Jackie Phillips at 357-2295.

Currituck school board to meet. The Currituck Board of Education will meet at Currituck County High School Monday at 7 p.m. A work session will precede the meeting at 5 p.m.

Computers in Workplace classes. College of The Albemarle's Workforce Readiness/Human Resource Development Program will offer a 30-hour class on Computers in the Workplace beginning Tuesday and ending March 4. One class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., while the second class will meet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. through March 4. The morning class will be held at the State Employment Security Commission on McArthur Drive, while the evening class will be held in Room FC-207 of the John Wood Foreman Technology Center. Hospital board to meet. The board of commissioners for the Albemarle Hospital Authority and Regional Medical Services, Inc., will meet in the hospital boardroom Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 6 p.m.

ECMS to sponsor Writing Night. Elizabeth City Middle School will sponsor "Writing Night" for 7th-graders and their parents in the school media center Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Library board to meet. The East Albemarle Regional Library will hold its quarterly board of trustees meeting at the Currituck Public Library Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.

Riders of the Light to meet. The Christian Motorcyclists Association's "Riders of the Light" will meet at Rachel's Place Saturday, Jan. 19, at 8 a.m.

Libraries to close for holiday. The Barco and Corolla branches of the Currituck County Libraries will be closed Saturday, Jan. 19 and Monday, Jan. 21 in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. They will be open Sunday, Jan. 20 for the Speakers' Forum and will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 22 with regular hours.

Wildlife Resources Commission to hold hearing. The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will hold a public hearing on proposed hunting, trapping and fishing rules at Swain Auditorium in Edenton Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. Among the rule changes to be discussed are a reduction in the Eastern season buck bag limit and an extension on squirrel season. Oxford Heights Community Watch to meet. The Oxford Heights Community Watch group will meet in the former council chambers in the Midgett Building Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m.

Weight loss program. The Currituck Center of the N.C. The Safety Education Section of the N.C. Industrial Commission will offer a new 30-hour Accident Prevention Certificate Awareness Program at the Manteo Airport pavilion Feb. 18-22.
