Local restaurants urged to go smoke-free. Albemarle Regional Health Services is urging all restaurants and bars in the region to go smoke-free during the week of Feb. 10-17 in celebration of Healthy Heart Week and Valentine's Day. Tourism panels to meet. The Marketing Committee of the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank County Tourism Development Authority will meet at the Fairfield Inn to discuss a comprehensive study of the tourism industry Monday at noon. The Special Projects Committee of the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank County Tourism Development Authority will meet at the Visitors and Convention Bureau Tuesday at 10 a.m.

One-stop voting continues. Early, one-stop voting for the Tuesday, Feb. 19, special election in Elizabeth City between 3rd Ward candidates Michael Brooks and Daniel Evans continues through Saturday, Feb. 16. Third Ward voters may cast ballots at the Pasquotank County Board of Elections Office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hours Feb. 16 will be 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Currituck school board to meet. The Currituck Board of Education will meet at Currituck County High School Monday at 7 p.m. A work session will be held at 5:15 p.m.
COA trustees to meet. College of The Albemarle's Board of Trustees will meet in Room FC-121-A of the John Wood Foreman Technology Center Tuesday at 7 p.m.
River Road PTA to meet. The River Road Middle School PTA will meet in Room 11 at Northeastern High School Tuesday at 6 p.m. The group will discuss the "8.5 program," which is designed for students who need an extra semester in middle school. Parents whose child received a retention letter are urged to attend.
Friends of Library to meet. The Friends of the W.C. Witherspoon Memorial Library will meet in the community room of the library Tuesday at 7 p.m. The raffle for the two Adirondack chairs made by Will Newbern will begin Tuesday. Tickets are $2. Panel to discuss deer-dog hunting. The Pasquotank County Board of Commissioners Special Projects Committee will discuss deer hunting with dogs, in the commissioners boardroom of the courthouse Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Meeting on DOT transportation plan. The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing on the draft of its proposed Transportation Improvement Plan for 2009-2015 Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 202 of Building B at College of The Albemarle.
