Fire and EMS board meeting. The Currituck Fire and EMS Advisory Board will meet at 7 p.m. the third Thursday of each month in Courtroom C of the Judicial Building located near county's governmental complex at 2801 Caratoke Highway.

J.P. Knapp High School Web site. www.knapp50.com, a new Web site for graduates of J.P. Knapp High School, has been created to help students in the classes of 1960 to 1976 locate each other. The Web site also will be used to relay information to alumni about a 50-year anniversary celebration/reunion of the founding of the school, which is planned for 2010. There is time for interested graduates to take part in the event planning. Knapp students are encouraged to visit the site often.

Currituck Safe and Drug-Free Schools Act. Summer reading program at Currituck Library. "Catch the Reading Bug" is the theme for this summer's reading program, held at 11 a.m. each Wednesday and story time starts at 10 a.m. each Tuesday.

Outreach Reading program. Read five books and bring reading log to the Currituck Library to be signed off and your name entered in a drawing to be held Tuesday, July 15, for a chance to win a gift certificate to Barnes & Noble.
2nd babysitters course. The Currituck Extension office will sponsor a second summer babysitters course for youth ages 12 and older. The course will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily July 21-23 at the new Extension Center off U.S. Highway 158 in Barco. Cost of the class is $20, which includes materials, supplies and CPR certification. Class size is limited to the first 12 students to pre-register by submitting payment to N.C. Cooperative Extension, 120 Community Way, Barco, NC 27917. Checks should be made payable to Currituck County. Participants should bring a bagged lunch each day. Participants will receive American Red Cross Adult, Child, Infant CPR and First Aid certification; information on babysitting safely; business basics; child growth and development, play activities and nutrition information.
