Christian Women's Club luncheon. The Rev. Bill Ralph will speak at a Currituck County Christian Women's Club luncheon scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at American Legion Post 288, Coinjock. Music by Diane Newbern. Lunch $6. Call 453-3266 for reservations.
Whalehead Club Wine Festival. The Whalehead Club will hold is annual wine festival Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is $20. Watson & Calhoun, a folk-rock & folk-alternative band, will provide the entertainment. Concessions will be available. Parking is free. Pets on leash are welcome.

Strawberry production meeting. A strawberry preplant meeting for area strawberry producers will be Thursday, Aug. 14 at the Currituck Extension office in Barco. The program will start at 6:15 p.m. with dinner, followed by a presentation starting at 7 p.m. by Barclay Poling, a strawberry Extension specialist. Poling will discuss fertility management, about midas as a replacement for methyl bromide and other topics. Preregistration is required by calling the Extension at 252-232-2262 no later than Tuesday, Aug. 12.
Propagation, grafting workshop. The Currituck Extension Master Gardeners will hold a propagation and grafting workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 at the Extension Center off U.S. Highway 158 in Barco. Ozzie Coor, of Coor Farm Supply, Landscapes and Greenhouses, in Smithfield, will speak. The workshop will provide instruction on how to propagate and graft plants to preserve heirlooms and to save money by producing your own plants. There is a $20 fee, which includes all supplies and lunch. Make checks payable to Currituck County. Call the Extension office at 232-2262 for a registration form.
First-ever CCFAFA golf tournament. The Currituck County Foster & Adoptive Family Association will host its first-ever CCFAFA Golf Tournament starting at noon Friday, Sept. 12 at Mill Run Golf Club, Moyock. Funds from the event will be used to support foster programs throughout Currituck County. Several gifts and raffles for participants are scheduled. The rain date is Friday, Sept. 19. Fire and EMS board meeting. The Currituck Fire and EMS Advisory Board will meet at 7 p.m. the third Thursday of each month in Courtroom C of the Judicial Building located near the county's governmental complex at 2801 Caratoke Highway.

Currituck County Schools will be conducting "Child Find" screenings at Central Elementary School, Wednesday, Aug. 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Child Find is an effort to locate children with disabilities and those in need of special education and related services. FSA County Committee nominations under way. Farmer and rancher candidate nominations began June 15 for local Farm Service Agency county committees and continue through today. To be eligible to serve on a committee, applicants must participate in a program administered by FSA, be eligible to vote, and must maintain a place of residence in the district seeking to represent. Ballots will be mailed beginning Nov. 3 and are due by Dec. 1.
