Motorists who use North Water Street between Elizabeth Street and East Colonial Avenue are going to have to take an alternate route for approximately a week.
Starting at 6 a.m. Monday, that section of North Water is going to be closed so crews can install the power feed to the future eastbound Camden Causeway drawbridge over the Pasquotank River, local Emergency Management Coordinator Christy Saunders said.
The closure is expected to remain in effect until Sunday, Aug. 24, Saunders said.
Traffic on Elizabeth Street will be unaffected other than access from Elizabeth to North Water downtown being prohibited. East Colonial traffic will be allowed to continue in the direction of North Water, but will only be allowed to turn right and go south.
The installation of the new eastbound drawbridge over the Pasquotank is part of the ongoing restoration of Elizabeth Street downtown.
