Citing rainy conditions forecast for this weekend, the Elizabeth City Jaycees have postponed their annual Christmas parade a week.

The parade was scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Saturday, but has been reset to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15.

Saturday’s weather forecast calls for a 70 percent chance of rain, with high temperatures expected to be in the lower 50s.

Two other Christmas parades set for Saturday are still tentatively scheduled to go forward. Organizers for both the Currituck and South Mills Christmas parades said they probably will make a final decision Thursday on whether their events are held as scheduled.

The truth must be known

The real reason is that there must be a Turkey Shoot somewhere that is more important to attend. Nothing else makes scense.

Priorities are messed up

As long as I can remember, Churches have always had services on Sunday night. I can understand having to reschedule due to weather issues but why not reschedule on another Saturday?

Saturday services, too

Some churches hold Saturday services also, but members still march in the parade. With enough advance notice, adjustments can be made.

Go to church then! Jesus is

Go to church then! Jesus is the reason for the season, not the Christmas parade!?!? Seasons Greetings.

Christmas Parade

Don't they know people have church on Sunday nights

The churches should be participating

The churches should be participating, this is a CHRISTmas parade after all. We should all be celebrating as a community.

Yes, the churches should be participating,

but not on Sunday night.

Why not?

Churches hold more than only mass on Sunday and hold mass on more days than only Sunday (the Sabbath). Holding a parade where the community is to come together to commemorate the birth of Christ is not breaking the day of rest / worship.
