Elizabeth City’s Fourth of July fireworks show will go on as planned Friday evening, City Manager Rich Olson said early this afternoon.

Hurricane Arthur should be well out of the area by the 9:10 p.m. time of the annual event, with the forecast calling for minimal winds at Mariners’ Wharf Park, Olson said.

“That decision was made a few minutes ago. I was just informed by my staff,” Olson said early this afternoon.

Zambelli Fireworks, of New Castle, Pa., will be in charge of lighting up the waterfront.

A pre-firework fair is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. in downtown Elizabeth City.
