School buses
I wonder if this is the same 'public school system' that sends a sample of their school buses' crankcase oil to a laboratory for testing; and, if it is ok they use it again! Hello, that oil is just dirty. Putting dirty oil in any internal combustion engine is ignorant! As I've said before, fossil-based crude oil does not wear out; it picks up impurities. Change the filters on a regular basis. Then, if the oil is run through a lube oil purifier and cleaned, it can be used again...and again...and again. Compare the cost of a lube oil purifier versus the cost of oil changes per year on a fleet of buses. For that manner, each school district in the county could use the same purifier; just load the barrels of used oil and haul them to the same purifier; cheaper than purchasing dozens of cases or several barrels of oil per year. Fossil-based crude oil does not wear out!
Good news
I am happy that the school could find a bus to meet their needs at such a reasonable price. Kudos to Mr. Jackson for lending a helping hand.
The one point I would bring up regarding this purchase, and I certainly do not mean it in any way to be negative towards any private school. While a bus with 90,000 miles on it is considered a great deal (and it truly is) by a private school, how come a bus like this is considered a worn-out relic in dire need of replacing by a public school system? Our local schools report that the buses are worn out, yet when sold off as surplus, serve well when put into the private sector of users. It would give pause to think that taxpayer's money is being wasted by somewhat frivolous spending. After all, if the bus is safe enough for private school kids, then it is certainly safe enough for public school kids. Perhaps it would be money better applied and less of it spent to hire additional mechanics at better wages to properly maintain the bus fleet. THAT would stimulate the local economy!
