The Federal Bureau of Investigation has created a handheld phone application you can download to help you find your child if he or she suddenly disappears in a public place.

The Child ID App gives you the chance to electronically store photos and vital information about your child and have such information readily at hand if needed.

You can show a picture of your child and also provide physical identification, such as your child’s height and weight, to police or security officers. Using a special tab on the application, you can also quickly and easily email the information to authorities.

The new application is currently only available for use on iPhones and can be downloaded for free from the App Store on iTunes.

The application includes tips on keeping children safe, as well as specific guidance on what to do after a child goes missing.

Anyone with any additional questions may phone Elizabeth City police Sgt. Larry James at 335-4321, ext. 317.
