Under its former contract with a Texas-based company, Albemarle Hospital was paying thousands more for physician recruitment than it would have if it had used the services of Vidant Health, the Greenville-based health care system with whom it has a management agreement.

WOW
Vidant has already been chosen by many in the selecting process, just read the comments written in this article by those involved. Sadly we have a group of people who want to make the decisions for our hospital but do not have the ability. They were unable to manage the hospital before Vidant, did not understand the agreement they implemented with Vidant, and now want to decide a long term lease agreement, probably with Vidant. We really need to remove those with conflicts of interest from the process and let professionals with experience with decisions like this and no conflicts to make an informed decision. Please do not forget what happened in Chowan.
So where was the controversy?
I still do not understand why the Daily Advance made the "forced"/early retirement of Tanner a "news" controversy that painted Vident in a bad light. I always said the best thing Vident did for our area was to get rid of her. Why the oversight of Tanner by the Hospital Board did not work and the oversight of the Hospital Board by the County Commissioners is a whole twisted noodle.
With that said the national average for physician recruitment is much higher than what is being published. The true cost per physician is around 35k. That is one of the many reasons why bleeding doctors is expensive.
