FLETCHER — Authorities have found the body of a man who disappeared while swimming in a lake where swimming is banned.

Officials said 42-year-old James Freeman was found in 15-foot deep waters in Lake Julian around 9:30 a.m. Friday. He disappeared Thursday afternoon while swimming with friends in the Henderson County lake.

Authorities think Freeman got trapped in a current of warm water released from the power plant on the lake.

Skyland Fire and Rescue Chief Dennis Presley says the water is about 90 degrees, and swimming is banned because the currents from the discharge are dangerous and bacteria can easily grow in the warm waters.
