Hertford has its own country doctor who makes housecalls.
For animals, that is!
Veterinarian Robin Stamey has opened Albemarle Mobile Veterinary Service and will travel to homes to take care of small animals. She offers most services on the road except surgery, dentistry, x-rays, and hospitalization. Those services, however, are provided by Pasquotank Animal Hospital near Elizabeth City which serves as Stamey’s base of operations.
“I work by appointment,” explained Stamey. “I take care of the animal’s routine needs like sick calls, vaccinations, examinations, and bloodwork.”
“I only take small animals, no horses or cows,” she added.
Dr. Stamey, a graduate of Auburn University, says she tries to be very punctual and appointments usually run less than an hour, even with multiple animals seen.
“The animal is not stressed sitting in a crowded waiting room in a vet’s office. Instead, the pet is more relaxed being seen in the comfort of its own home,” she pointed out.
In addition to seeing animals in the home, Dr. Stamey will also answer your pet questions via email between visits.
And, when the time comes to put a pet down, she performs in-home euthanasia to allow both pet and owner to share a peaceful, caring, comforting, and private end to life together.
She is providing leadership to the Perquimans Animal Welfare Society and offers her services free of charge to help treat a foster dog taken in with heartworms.
