Despite a recent rash of shootings in Elizabeth City, Mayor Joe Peel is not reviving calls for a gang and crime study panel and says he feels very confident about the work of the city’s new police chief.

Gang Related Study????
When Elizabeth City actually have real gangmembers instead of wannabes, I think that is when the concerns should be focused on gang studies. What's happening in Elizabeth City is menial in comparison to other cities. I have a thought how about creating a Parent your child task force for those who choose to let their children run errantly and create badlam...Now that's food for thought. Also, revamp your judicial system and give harsher sentences. Drug dealers get more time that those who go armed to the terror of the public.
Long Term Fix???
Mayor Peel, how many more shootings and gang related deaths must the people of EC endure between now and the fruition of your Vision 2020 initiative? Crime IS the problem, Mayor, and its crucial that we address it in the SHORT TERM, immediately! Until these murderers are captured and held responsible for their heinous acts, there will be no "better quality of life" for anyone. Just ask the families of the victims. Ask the average EC citizen concerned about being hit by wild crossfire. Ask the downtown business owners whose customers are avoiding the area. The full force and strength of our police department and our new chief should be tasked with finding these murderers, and putting a stop to this ongoing endangerment of the public.

This makes me want to vote against Peel in the next election. Just another politician with empty promises in order to be elected. We need someone who will roll up their sleeves and actually get something DONE. Showers for boaters doesn't cut it, Peel.
