A Perquimans County man was killed early Sunday morning in single-vehicle accident on U.S. 17 South near Okisko Road in Pasquotank County, according to local law enforcement officials.

A State Highway Patrol dispatcher said Sunday afternoon she didn’t have details on the case, nor was the Highway Patrol trooper investigating the accident immediately available for comment. But she confirmed the fatality occurred.

An N.C. Department of Transportation “high-severity incident” report indicated the wreck happened around 4 a.m., and required a northbound-lane closure until approximately 7 a.m.

Pasquotank County Sheriff Randy Cartwright said around 4 a.m. is when the Highway Patrol called him asking for deputies to respond to the scene. To his knowledge, the driver was a young man from Perquimans County who was killed at the scene. He didn’t know who he was or what may have caused the wreck.

Further details were not immediately available.
