Dr. MLK, Jr, is it? Judging a man's character by the color of his skin, rather than by his works? Is Mr. Perry calling for a quota system? Maybe we ought to have an illegal alien representative on the board, since the president is pushing to give them everything else.

Racism still thrives in EC

Surely looks as if this elected official is only concerned with the black portion of his empowerment!

Wrong focus

It would sure be uplifting if instead of focusing on the color of your representatives you would focus on the quality and qualifications. Your suggestions that if a person is not the same color they do not represent all the people but only those of the same color, is insulting. By that logic our president must not be representing all Americans. How about instead you turn your focus, efforts and energy to inspiring those you feel should be our representatives toward becoming qualified and then applying for those positions. I have a dream that one day "they will not be judged by the color of their skin but the content of their character..." Live it...

In this instance I totally agree with your comment.

I agree with freespeaker.

Well said.

Oh, my gosh!

Come on, Perry, gimmee a break! There aren't any Latinos on the board either. Let's turn this around for a moment. I'm offended that there aren't any white people on the local, state or national boards of the NAACP. But even beyond this, why is it so important to "place" a person of color in any position just because of the color of their skin? Doesn't the word qualified mean anything anymore? My experience with those "appointed" members is that it was all about entitlement and race. The Civil War is over people. For equality to be achieved, the black race needs to let their hatred and contempt for others go and start living in the present. Perry needs to get past the "color" thing and do what he was elected to do, and that's fairly represent the voters and citizens of Pasquotank.
