Looking for family friendly things to do this Summer? There are so many wonderful things happening in Downtown Elizabeth City — movies, music, camps, art, food, shopping, sales and more. There is something for the whole family downtown!

Tuesday evenings are the 2014 Mariners’ Wharf Film Festival nights. Relive the drive-in movie experience — minus the car — with Elizabeth City’s beautiful waterfront at Mariners’ Wharf as the backdrop. Classic American films are shown on a large screen on Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m. now until Aug. 5. All movie screenings are free to the public, and ECDI has drinks and fresh popped popcorn available for sale. We have a great lineup of classics to show! For a complete listing of movies please visit Or follow the festival on Twitter and Facebook.

Also, kid-friendly movie night “Kids’ Flix” has their second & third scheduled showings at Mariners’ Wharf Park on Friday, July 25, and Aug. 22 at 8:15 p.m. Movies are appropriate for toddlers as well as the whole family. Bring your lawn chairs, towels, and blankets and enjoy fun on the lawn!

Beginning Tuesday, July 29, the 2014 Music On The Green at Mariner’s Wharf Park kicks off the summer music series. Local and regional bands will perform concerts free to the public on the beautiful downtown Elizabeth City waterfront every Tuesday evening from July 29 through Sept. 23 from 6-8 p.m. Musicians include Bobby Plough & Friends, Mid Life Crisis Band, Brown Sugar, Million Watt Sons, Fourth and Twenty Band, Bahia Caliente Latin Salsa, Country Classics Band, Full Deck Band, and Danny Sawyer and Friends. For more information about Coast Guard Week contact EC Area Chamber of Commerce (252) 335-4365.

Plus, our fabulous Downtown Waterfront Market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday morning at Mariners’ Wharf Park where you will find fresh produce, baked goods, crafts, flowers and plants, Kids’ Club, and lots more!

The “2014 National Night Out Against Crime” events are happening at Waterfront Park on Aug. 5 from 4 to 9 p.m. The Police Department is working on plans for our annual National Night Out Against Crime Street Party. The purpose of this event is for citizens and police to come together, standing in a united front against crime. Information booths, bounce houses, kids’ games, K-9 demonstrations, entertainment and food vendors will be available for the community. Make your plans now to attend! For more information please contact Officer L. Flanigan by calling 252-722-3824.

There are plenty of activities for kids downtown including camps at Museum of the Albemarle, Port Discover, Arts of the Albemarle and many other downtown Summer Camps.

There is plenty of parking at the free public city lots at Church and Water Streets & on Poindexter Street, as well as on-street parking.

Also what a great way to encourage a healthy lifestyle by walking in our pedestrian friendly environment!

Speaking of “healthy” why not visit the Fitness Warehouse, or, Body In Balance Nutrition’s “FitClub”. Or, check out Port Discover’s “Worth the Walk” maps or ride their “Surrey Bike.” Visit No Limit Fitness, Sports Performance and Training Center, or the brand new “Dollar Fitness” coming soon to 400 S. Water Street (across from Groupers).

Come on downtown this Summer and support your favorite businesses while enjoying the beauty of the historic buildings, the waterfront, and the many fun activities we have to offer! (For more information please contact Rebecca Cross at Elizabeth City Downtown, Inc.; 252-338-4104;;
