KINSTON — Authorities say a man has been charged with stealing the campaign signs of a man running for Lenoir County sheriff.

Kinston Police told local media outlets that Thomas Ipock Sr. was arrested Saturday night after someone saw him pulling campaign signs out of the ground near a Kinston gas station.

Investigators say Ipock told them he supports Rickie Pearson’s bid to become Lenoir County Sheriff, so he was taking down candidate Ronnie Ingram’s signs.

Authorities say Ingram filed theft charges against Ipock and the stolen signs were returned to his campaign.

It wasn’t clear if Ipock had a lawyer.
