Now that the Vision 2020 Steering Committee has developed a big-picture vision of a vibrant, prosperous community, it will be up to nine smaller groups to figure out how to make that picture come to life.

sallie not tony
Hey Trish, my immediate reaction to your post is to suggest that you take a reading comprehension course. But that would be unkind. So I'll try to be kind, even though you were not.
The waterfront and downtown are economic drivers that fund all the other issues you threw at the Mayor. Econ 101. A city, a county, or a country, makes money by having a prosperous business community paying taxes, that funds a prosperous individual community who pay taxes.
There are other huge initiatives that are making a difference and can't be seen from the waterfront. The AirPark and the related revenues it brings in, not to mention the opportunities provided by collaberation with our local colleges and universities
That is the answer to your charge that the Mayor is doing nothing to deal with youngsters without hope, taxpayers without decent representation, renters without protection.
We have a minimum rental code that was passed over the objections of many of the people who should have cared (do the research). It insures not just a decent place, but a good place to live, for all our residents. Check it out.
Trish, before you spout your vilification of folks who work every day to make things better, check your facts.
It's people like you that toss EC on the trash heap of cities. We don't belong there.

In response to comments made by Trish -- perhaps she should volunteer to serve on one of the teams -- then she could assist in trying to make EC a better place.
waterfront
I'm sure the only goals that will get met will be the ones about the waterfront and the downtown. That's because too many people in this town have blinders on the left side of their heads when they drive from the Riverside area, over the Charles Creek bridge. All they see is their precious museum and downtown waterfront.
Where's the goal of reducing gun violence? Where's the goal of cleaning up the slums of this city? Where's the goal of making sure the people that get paid minimum wage have an opportunity to rent a home from someone other than a slum lord? Where's the goal of giving the youth of our town a safe place to go to after school? Where's the goal of building those youth up into peaceful, law-abiding citizens?
It's time to kick Peel out. Please, someone with some REAL goals, step up and run for the leader of our town before we bleed to death!
