Elizabeth City voters head to the polls today to decide runoff elections for mayor and two 3rd Ward City Council seats.
Polls are open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
All registered voters in the city are eligible to vote in the runoff election for mayor between Roger McLean and former Mayor Rick Gardner.
In addition, registered voters in the 3rd Ward may vote for two candidates in the runoff election for City Council. Vying for the two seats are incumbent Councilman Rickey E. King, former Councilman Michael E. Brooks, and political newcomers Milford F. Creecy and Dennis B. Stallings.
Municipal elections are also scheduled today in Edenton, Hertford and Winfall.
One-stop voting in the runoff surpassed the number of early votes cast in the Oct. 6th city election: 1,370 one-stop votes were cast in the runoff election, compared with 1,316 in the Oct. 6th election.
Polling places for the runoff elections include:
• 1A — Agricultural Building, 1209 McPherson St.;
• 1B — River Road Middle School, 1701 River Road;
• 1C — Agricultural Building, 1209 McPherson St.;
• 2A — Knobbs Creek Recreation Center, 200 E. Ward St.;
• 2B — Sheep-Harney Elementary School, 200 W. Elizabeth St.;
• 3A — Central Elementary School, 1059 U.S. Highway 17 South;
• 3B — Pasquotank Elementary School, 1407 Peartree Road;
• Mt. Hermon (city residents only) — Evangelical Methodist Church, 820 Okiso Road;
• 4A — United House of Prayer for All People, 1317 Southern Ave.;
• 4B — Kermit E. White Center, 1704 Weeksville Road.
