An Elizabeth City man died Monday evening after losing control of his motorcycle and slamming into a tree, police said. Antron Devon Johnson, 23, of Travis Drive, was pronounced dead at Albemarle Hospital, said Lt. John Etheridge of the Elizabeth City Police Department. The single-vehicle accident happened about 7:45 p.m. as Johnson, who was driving a 1998 Yamaha, had just turned north from Maryland Avenue onto Herrington Road, Etheridge said. An eyewitness told police that Johnson appeared to encounter mechanical trouble just prior to the wreck.
