Janice and Billy Winslow have been home delivered meals volunteers for the Albemarle Commission Senior Nutrition Program since 1996.

Their interest in the program started when Janice’s aunt began receiving home delivered meals. Janice realized the comfort it was for her family to know that her aunt was getting a good meal and someone to check on her during the day. When Janice retired from the school system after 28 years as a school social worker and Billy retired from Crossroads Fuel Inc., they wanted to give back to the community. They decided to start delivering meals for the Senior Nutrition Program.

They deliver each week to the same people. At Thanksgiving and Christmas, they take homemade sweet potato pie to the seniors on the route.

Janice says they continue to carry meals because “it is the highlight of their day to help somebody else.”

This summer their young neighbor Michael Waters has been accompanying them.
