Water service has been temporarily disrupted north of the Knobbs Creek bridges as a new 20-inch water main is replaced.

City Manager Rich Olson said water pressure will be reduced until 9 p.m. at Albemarle Hospital, College of The Albemarle and the Albemarle Family YMCA.

The water main that feeds the north side of the city from the water treatment plant was shut down at 2 p.m. Thursday so that final connections can be made at each end of the new line under Knobbs Creek, Olson said.

“We have taken all the steps we know about to maintain as much water supply and pressure to these areas as we can,” he said in a statement.

“We are anticipating that there will only be about five buildings, those just north of the creek on the west side of (U.S.) 17 North, that will have no water,” Olson said. “All other water customers ... should only experience a reduction in pressure during the work.”
