A while back one of my more acidly sardonic critics speculated as to whether The Daily Advance had a computer in the basement that cranked out my columns. He even described the program (a little folksiness, a little exaggeration…). It was wickedly droll and made me chuckle out loud. Somehow I don’t think amusing me was his intended goal. His point (that I can be formulaic) is well-taken. I think most writers can be. It is a failing to be avoided. I do try.
