Area school districts announce later start Tuesday

Anticipating icy roads Tuesday morning, three area school districts will start class later than usual on Tuesday.

The Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools, Perquimans County Schools, Edenton-Chowan Schools and the Camden County Schools will all start the school day two hours later than normal. The Currituck County Schools will start three hours later than normal.

The National Weather Service has issued a weather advisory for the Albemarle region that will remain in effect until midnight tonight. The weather service is calling for a mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain to start early this afternoon, turning to snow and sleet this afternoon and evening. Accumulations of between 1 and 2 inches of snow and sleet are expected.
