A block of southbound Water Street will be closed for part of the day on Friday so that contractors working on the Elizabeth Street reconstruction project can complete work on a stormwater pump station.
The closure will only affect the block of the southbound lane of Water Street between Elizabeth Street and Colonial Avenue, District Field Engineer Randy Midgett of the N.C. Department of Transportation said today.
DOT discovered a 10-inch water line near the pump station work that needs to be shut off. Because the line runs under Water Street, the southbound lane between Elizabeth and Colonial will need to be closed off.
The closure is not expected to be all day, because DOT is expecting to complete the work on Friday and reopen the block to traffic, Midgett said. The northbound lane of Water Street will be open during the work unless the project requires its closing, he said.
