KINSTON — A worker at the Lenoir County Boys and Girls Club is facing several sex-related charges involving a teenage boy.

Police in Kinston say 39-year-old Telas Ray Staten is charged with felony counts of statutory sexual offense, indecent liberties with a child and crimes against nature. The police report identified the alleged victim as a male between the ages of 13 and 15.

Kinston Police Commander Tim Dilday said the department received a call on Monday and visited Staten's home. He was arrested after an interview.

Staten, who also served as pastor at a church in New Bern, is jailed under $510,000 bond. He requested a court-appointed attorney after a court appearance on Tuesday, but court officials couldn't immediately provide the attorney's name.
