LeVar Mizelle, assistant principal at River Road Middle School since 2007, has been named principal of Weeksville Elementary School.

The Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Board of Education approved Mizelle’s nomination during a special meeting Monday, according to a news release. She replaces long-time Weeksville Principal Walter ”Buck” Jolly, who retired this spring after a 50-year career in education.

Mizelle holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Elizabeth City State University and a master’s degree in education from Regent University. Mizelle is currently pursuing an education specialist degree (Ed.S.) from Jones International University.

Mizelle is expected to begin work at Weeksville Elementary School immediately, according to the release.
