Now I'm just an ordinary guy, but you tell me: If we pay City Manager Rich Olson and other city officials top salaries, shouldn't we be getting our money's worth? The people of Elizabeth City are paying them top dollar and we are getting minimum-wage work. The City Council, as whole, has no grit and are so afraid the city will get sued by someone that they show a weakness that is an embarrassment to all of us.
This council is by no means royalty; Councilwoman Anita Hummer is not the queen that she seems to want us to think she is. I would like to know what her motivation is because she is totally out of touch with the people she says she represents. She needs to know that the people of this city do not hang on her words or opinions.
My question is: Does Councilwoman Hummer or anyone in her family have a vested interest in any nonprofits? If she or they do, why is she allowed to vote on any nonprofit matters?
I love this city and respect my friends and their opinions. I take time to look around every day and breathe in what we have and consider how lucky we are to live in this great place. I say this because this is my home and I don't respect anyone who tries to hurt it.
Why don't we all rethink why we elected some city councilors and send them home? These are not special people; they are no different from you or me. But when you elected them, they became special in their own minds. Places don't change, people change!
